Yesterday, I talked with a professor who I really need to like me and my work.

We talked about my master’s thesis topic, which is the revitalization of the Tatar language in the post-Soviet era. His reaction: “That’s wonderful!” (the first time I’ve heard those words in that order from a German.)

Later, I told my mom about this encounter. She asked what my topic was, and I told her.

Her reaction: “Ew.”
