When you travel with a rail pass, your travel is counted not by trips or miles, but by days. So I have 6 empty boxes on my pass, one for each day of travel I’m allowed. On Deutsche Bahn, they don’t check your ticket when you board the train. Instead, you get on and take your seat, and then at some point during the trip the conductor will come through and ask who got on. You announce yourself and show your ticket/pass, and they put a stamp that shows the date on it.

On my trip yesterday, my ticket was checked by an Azubi (ah-TSOO-bee), or an apprentice. She must have been pretty new, because I realized after I got off the train that she had checked my pass, but not stamped it. So I now have an extra free day of travel. WHERE SHOULD I GO?!
